Last week, DSA was excited to join Vietnamese American Initiative for Development (VietAID) for Community Day at Hollins Park in Dorchester, where neighbors had the chance to learn more and participate in the archaeological dig taking place ahead of construction.
With a vacant home dating back to 1810, the site has already revealed some fascinating pieces of local history: The City of Boston Archaeology Program’s team has uncovered portions of a foundation wall from a former workshop, along with pottery, buttons, nails, and other artifacts that offer a glimpse into the site's past.
DSA’s Job Captain Adam Richter joined the dig, captured these great photos below, and even made a few discoveries of his own — including a piece of coal and an old nail head!
A big thank-you to Anna Clemens and VietAID for inviting us to be part of this community event, and we're looking forward to seeing Hollins Park continue its transformation into much-needed affordable housing for the Greater Bowdoin-Geneva community.
