Bowdoin Manor awarded funding

Boston, MA, January 25, 2011- This January funding agency MassDevelopment announced its issuance of a $3.2 million tax-exempt bond on behalf of Bowdoin Manor LLC. Bowdoin Manor is comprised of three adjacent buildings in Beacon Hill that house 115 single-room occupancy units. The facility, run by Commonwealth Land Trust, serves low-income individuals in Boston with special needs who were once homeless.

As a designated National Historic Landmark and located within the Beacon Hill Historic District, the building will receive new windows with trim and molding to match the historic character. Other improvements include masonry repairs, interior reconfiguration to improve egress and accessibility, new interior finishes, new energy-efficient boilers, and improvements and upgrades to electrical systems and fire safety systems.

The bonds will be used not only to preserve the building, but also allow it to continue to provide shelter to those who need it most admist the harsh winter weather.
