Lynn Marcella Residences Grand Opening

Chelmsford, MA, November 8, 2011 – The new 4,300 square-foot Lynn Marcella Residences at 4 James Street in Chelmsford celebrated its grand opening this November. The celebration was attended by over 100 members of the community, as well as state and local representatives, including U.S. Representative Niki Tsongas.

The five new 2-bedroom units were created to fill the need for permanent family housing in the area, and will provide transitional housing for formerly homeless families. Not only do the units provide safe and affordable housing, but the project also offers supportive services from the Chelmsford Housing Authority’s Family Self Sufficiency Program and the House of Hope in Lowell. These programs will help the families to settle in and work towards employment and homeownership goals.

The development was dedicated to Lynn Marcella, the former head of the Chelmsford Housing Authority. Marcella has dedicated her life to volunteering and making a difference. She has had a hand in overseeing special needs, family and veteran housing in Chelmsford for over 15 years.

This project was one of four projects in Massachusetts to be funded by the Massachusetts Housing Partnership’s Neighborhood Rental Initiative. Davis Square Architects ensured that the residence was designed and built to comply with Energy Star Home program guidelines. The heating and hot water systems have greater than 90% efficiency and the building itself is super-insulated to increase overall efficiency. Drought-tolerant native plant species were used throughout the site.
