Visible from the highway, the static Mystic River Apartments stood as an eyesore against the Massachusetts landscape. The Somerville Housing Authority called on Davis Square Architects to create a visually-stimulating as well as functional addition to the building. We added 240 precast concrete module kitchen and bathrooms to the exterior, turning the flat brick building into a multi-dimensional complex. In addition to the modules, Davis Square Architects also renovated 12 apartment units for MAAB compliance and added a new roof along the entire building. Additionally, we completed several miscellaneous site improvements, including addition of walkways, ramps, and parking spaces.
