In the City of Lowell’s historic and diverse The Acre neighborhood, Davis Square Architects partnered with Tremont Development Partners on 733 Broadway, a new four-story, 52-unit affordable rental development. Conveniently located close to public transportation, 733 Broadway was once home to an historic warehouse that has been largely demolished, but select portions of the façade were restored and incorporated into the new design.
Features include a community room, bike storage, a management office, and in-building, street-level parking. Three of the units are ADA-accessible, and three units are reserved as permanent housing for formerly homeless families, with House of Hope providing supportive services. 733 Broadway features all-electric systems and is Passive House-certified, a process requiring unique solutions to support and restore the existing warehouse’s masonry walls and historic windows to National Park Service standards while also meeting Phius thermal bridging, insulation, and air-tightness requirements.
