Bridge Over Troubled Waters is a Boston-based organization serving runaway, homeless and high-risk youth. Davis Square Architects worked on the renovation and expansion of their single-parent home, a voluntary transitional living program for pregnant and parenting homeless young women and their children. The project involved the renovation of an existing building and an addition to another; increasing the number of mothers served from seven to 11 and up to two babies at any given time.
The expanded living spaces include newly furnished bedrooms and communal areas reconfigured to foster relationship-oriented services, and counseling rooms for one-on-one sessions as well as learning spaces were also added. Upgrades feature improved accessibility, internal systems and energy-efficient HVAC. The outdoor space was also updated, particularly the children’s playground and back deck.
