Phase 2 of the Saint Polycarp Village development features 29 family apartments and a community meeting space. The community room’s double doors connect seamlessly to the terrace and natural playground at the heart of the whole Village.The courtyard at the center of the development is surrounded by a stained wood trellises that provides sheltered outdoor balcony space for each apartment, as well as bright open-air stairways and corridors from which to view the landscaped rain garden below.
Phase 3 of Saint Polycarp Village is a LEED-Platinum seeking building which houses 31 family apartments and a management office, as well as basement-level parking and indoor bike room. While the building has a high-efficiency elevator, ground level units have private entries and internal stairways to serve the townhouses.Sustainable features include double-stud walls for an extra wide blanket of wall insulation, triple-pane windows, and strict measures to reduce air leakage.
The CHOICE Center is the new construction of a final building for the existing 102-unit Chelmsford Senior Campus, called the North Village. The 35,000 square-feet facility includes 37 age-restricted units and 4,000 square-feet of common area for a café and other supportive services that are available to the entire campus. Both the 39-kW rooftop photovoltaic system and super-insulated envelope help offset operating costs. The building achieved a Tier 2 Energy Star rating and a HERS Index of 40.
Bartlett Place is a joint venture proposal for 313 units of affordable, moderate and market rental and homeownership housing, senior housing, and commercial/retail space. Situated on a former MBTA lot just outside Dudley Square, this transit-oriented development will offer public and private greenspaces complete with outdoor seating and dining areas, tot lots, and generous planted walkways. The project is designed to be both a comprehensive community and form a nexus between the surrounding neighborhoods.
Bloomfield Gardens’ rental apartment building is a perfect smart growth development for the City of Boston. The project involved the dense redevelopment of a vacant urban site already served by infrastructure. Located just steps away from the Fields Corner subway station and multiple bus stops, residents, customers and employees have easy access to public transportation.
7 Cameron is the new construction of 37 market rate 1 and 2 bedroom units on the Linear Park in North Cambridge. The building is four stories above an underground parking garage. Dedicated outdoor space includes an exterior patio or full balcony. Residents will share a variety of common spaces, including a function room, roof deck, patio, bike storage, and fitness room.
Founded in 1885, Ellis Memorial & Eldredge House, Inc. is a non-profit social service agency with programs at multiple locations in Boston. Since its establishment the house has not strayed from its original mission of serving neighbors in the South End community. In an effort to expand and consolidate their programs, they acquired two vacant properties in Boston’s South End. Davis Square Architects is currently working with the organization on core and shell design and construction of the two historic buildings.
Located on a 3.5-acre former church site and at the corner of several main thoroughfares, the Saint Polycarp Village Apartments has been called a “Gateway to the City”. The newly constructed mixed-use building offers 24 affordable, green housing units, three ground-level retail spaces and public landscaped outdoor space.
The new 35,000 sf Residential Treatment Center consolidates all of Hope House's programming and operations under one roof, allowing one of Boston's oldest substance abuse treatment centers for men to serve clients and to deliver services more efficiently.
Affirmative Investments retained Davis Square Architects for the design of affordable, family units on a tight, steeply sloped site (36 feet grade change from front to back) in Belmont, MA. After considering a variety of approaches, the design team arrived at a dramatically terraced scheme, with the 40 units distributed in six buildings. A new stone-faced retaining wall provides an attractive “gateway” into Belmont.
